About

Map Area Calculator is a free, independent measurement tool. You draw on the map; your browser computes the area and distance locally — your shapes are never uploaded to us, because there is no "us" receiving them: saved measurements live in your browser's storage and shared links encode the shape in the URL itself.

The area math is geodesic — it accounts for the Earth's curvature using the standard spherical model, the same approach used by county GIS systems and professional mapping tools. Imagery and map data come from OpenStreetMap, the collaborative open map.

Our bias is stated plainly: map measurement is for planning, buying and checking — 1-2% accurate at property scale. Legal boundaries belong to surveyors. We would rather tell you that than pretend a polygon is a plat.
